Rob Waller was born in Salisbury, England, and grew up in a village on the outskirts of the New Forest. After flirting with journalism, copywriting, advertising and marketing, Rob found a passion for telling stories with data, and had a successful career working with new technologies and helping businesses grow using the power of analytics to tell stories.
Rob lives with his wife, two children, Dalmatian and two cats. When not looking after them, working, cooking, or heaven forbid, writing, he enjoys football, golf, and playing the bass guitar.
He always enjoyed creative writing, fascinated by stories of other worlds and strange dimensions that included a sense of wonder at the unknown. Growing up surrounded by the open woods, Rob always pondered what would happen if he found a portal to another world, and brought back an evil mage. His first novel delves into that idea.
It’s taken a while from seed of germination through to publishing, a period of time encompassing getting married, children being born, to his daughter growing old enough to read it and offer back her advice and encouragement. Rob hopes his second novel doesn’t take as long to write.
Ben Freeman is just an ordinary boy from the New Forest… Or so he believes until one day whilst on a camping trip, he stumbles into another dimension; a strange and dark world called the Shadow Realm.
Ravaged by a magical war, the few surviving residents eke out a pitiful existence, living under the oppressive regime of the evil Lord Blackwood.
In an effort to understand what the Shadow Realm is, and why he can travel there, Ben convinces his friends to go with him, so they can see this ghostly world for themselves. What they find there pitches them into the middle of an inter-dimensional war, sparking an urgent and desperate battle to save not only themselves, but also our own world from complete annihilation. Can Ben stop Blackwood before it’s too late?
Worlds Apart is a middle grade novel, perfect for children aged 9 – 14 years old.
R.J. Waller was born in Salisbury, England, and grew up in a village on the outskirts of the New Forest. He now lives in Worcestershire with his wife, two children, Dalmatian and cats. Lazy days larking around in the forest in his youth, and a fascination for stories of other worlds and dimensions, provided the inspiration for this first novel.
