Fran Raya

I currently live in Manchester and my career has been predominantly in music since the 1970’s. I’m a member of the Guild of International Songwriters and Composers (GISC) and have been featured in their quarterly magazines. I performed throughout Europe and was the support act for Eric Clapton on his Scandinavian tours in the 1980’s. My music website is www.franraya.com which is self-explanatory.

My literary career began years ago. I’ve written short stories and numerous poems. They were published in over 15 anthologies with United Press, which culminated in my own book, featuring my poetry.

In 1996 I had a very strong compunction to write a short story about a little boy with paranormal powers. It snowballed into a large manuscript, and over the years I approached numerous agents and publishers, who were quite impressed on the whole. However, a publishing deal never materialized. So, I put it to one side.

Then in 2014, when my late husband and I sold our house and moved into an apartment, I rediscovered the manuscript. I decided to write a series, rather than one large book. So, I approached The Book Guild and to my great delight, in 2018 they published the first book, Poetic Justice: The Dawning...

Even more exciting, is the fact that the fifth book, Poetic Justice: Intrusion, will be published on October 28th 2022. Without The Book Guild having faith in my writing, my work would have gathered dust on a forgotten shelf. I can’t thank them enough for their support and belief. They are very professional, with an endearing human touch, which is rare in this world of competitive rivalry. A priceless connection.

With regard to my series, the protagonist, Randal Forbes, stretches the boundaries of telepathy. He touches many lives and destroys others. His supporting cast is also visual and readers will identify with their particular life stories. So, my inspiration is an unusual spin on reality and fantasy. Please have a look at my author website as all the books are featured.

Poetic Justice: The Dawning

28 Aug 2018

Randal Forbes is born on 1st January 1958 to a close family of high professional distinction. He stands out from the crowd and is recognised as a genius from a very early age but there is something extremely daunting about his remarkable abilities. He calls his demonic leanings ‘the gift’ and sees himself as its main instrument, using his unholy talents to defend his followers or destroy his enemies. He is fiercely telepathic and will dispose of any adversary who suspects his benefaction. From a distance through a photographic image, or on the actual spot, he will enter his victim’s minds and take over their thought processes, delivering hypnotic demands resulting in their demise or ruin.

In this first book of a planned series, it follows his life from a baby up to his teenage years. Randal’s burning ambition is to become a successful author of great works. He will use his gift to achieve this, removing any human obstacles in his path who suspect his dark side. Paranormal crime is his speciality. He is exceptionally attractive in appearance and can be malevolent or benevolent, depending on his twisted sense of poetic justice. Although he has loyalty and affection for his family and others, deep down he lets nothing get in the way of his vocation. He weaves his hypnotic spell over anyone in order to climb his odious ladder of advancement.

His trail of destruction has caught the attention of the police, who are investigating him under potential murder charges. But proving his guilt is difficult as he is nowhere near the crime scene; just inside the head of each targeted victim, issuing commands.

Now a student at Beaumont College in Oxford, he revels in his own success and is well on his way to becoming a celebrated author.

There are new ‘enemies’ to deal with in Oxford and Randal seeks to remove those who suspect his paranormal leanings. He has a twisted sense of poetic justice but also a chivalric loyalty to his family.

Poetic Justice: The Inheritance

28 Nov 2021

Randal Forbes calls his phenomenal, telepathic powers ‘the gift’.

Randal had been anticipating the arrival of his special child who would bear the hallmark of his spiritual legacy. It was a rancid, bitter pill to swallow when Roxanne was born out of the result of a one-night stand with his artist, Maxine Hale. She is married to Saul Curtis and has passed the baby off as his, but she is aware of her daughter’s true paternity and is very disturbed by her penetrative gaze and strange behaviour.

Randal’s wife, Alison, and their children, are still completely blind to his dark side.

Clive Hargreaves, his lover and protector, remains eternally at his side.

In this fourth book of the series, Randal encounters further danger ahead, but the main aim is to develop and nurture ‘the gift’ that is blossoming within his chosen child, Roxanne.

Randal Forbes has a dark side so powerful that only someone with a similar ‘gift’ would be able to challenge him and when Carlton Flint appears in his deadly arena, Randal may well have met his match!

Beatles and Beacons

28 Jan 2024

Once upon another time, about a million songs ago, there lived a musical group on a teenager’s bedroom wall. These persons raided her queendom on an ordinary October day, through her dad’s Bakelite wireless. The song they sang was a tuneful newness and she helped it touch number seventeen in a memorable chart of yesterday, specifically 1962.

Take a trip across the 1960s through the eyes and mind of Rebecca Beacon, who is twelve years old when she becomes aware of The Beatles, at the very beginning of their ascendancy. Her teenage years are exciting but also saturated with angst and harsh realities, made bearable by her icons as she finds her own musical identity.

This semi-autobiographical, coming-of-age story will strike a nostalgic chord for fans of the same generation, but also for the many admirers of the band, who are too young to have witnessed Beatlemania in full flow.
