Gabrielle and Ethan love spending time with their Nanny and Grandad. But as time passes them by, Nanny starts to get tired very easily, and becomes weaker.

One day when Nanny falls asleep, she unfortunately doesn’t wake up again; Mummy explains, “Some angels called for your Nanny to come and help them in heaven.”

A Feather is a story about death and grieving for younger children. Written based on the author’s lived experience of how she explained the loss of their Nanny to her own twins, aged 3. This book will help other parents to also provide comfort and reassurance about death, still keeping the memory of lost loved ones alive in simple words.

Coming to terms with a loved one’s death is hard for everyone, especially young children, who can find it difficult to express their emotions and feelings. This beautiful picture book is about the love between the twins and their Nanny, and how, through memories and small signs, love can live on.

Colette Fox lives with her husband and twin children in Buckhurst Hill, Essex. She previously published a memoir called IVF Got This (Book Guild 2020).
