Description

Join Fearghal O’Laigh on this epic journey across the South American continent. This is a story that involves Amazonian plant brews, a psychoactive cactus, safari disasters, multiple counts of food poisoning and getting chased off cocaine farms.

But it is much more than an entertaining caper. It is also a journey to spiritual enlightenment, finding meaning in everything he encounters along the way. It is a story of personal growth and the overcoming of adversity. He develops a deep bond with nature, coming to view this as a basic human need, which allows us to thrive and to realise our full potential in life.

“The plant brew, ayahuasca, was said to possess the power to unlock ancient, innate wisdom.”

He pored through the book he was reading, enthralled, and determined to find out more.

“Those who drank the brew would become the bearers of the One Universal Truth.”

A sojourn into the depths of the Amazon ensues…

In 2018, Fearghal O'Laigh travelled to South America for no reason other than having felt a calling. He just knew he needed to go there. In total, he spent a year on the continent, teaching English at first (a great way to experience the culture of a new land), and then travelling across the continent intent on tapping in somehow to its rich shamanic heritage. He had read much about the plants the shamans use for healing and finding spiritual connection.

His story involves Amazonian plant brews, a psychoactive cactus, safari disasters, multiple counts of food poisoning and getting chased off cocaine farms. But it is much more than an entertaining caper. It is also a journey to spiritual enlightenment, finding meaning in everything he encounters along the way. It is a story of personal growth and overcoming adversity. He develops a deep bond with nature, coming to view this as a basic human need, which allows us to thrive and to realise our full potential.

Previously, he spent a year volunteering on various reforestation and permaculture projects across the globe. He holds a field guiding qualification, after spending a year in South Africa, working as a guide on a wildlife reserve.

On returning to Ireland, he took to managing an organic fruit and vegetable shop; he also continues to teach English. He holds a diploma in foraging and takes groups on eco-tours. He is currently completing an apprenticeship as a medical herbalist ̶ a means to sharing his passion.
