Description

London socialite and political wife, Frankie, is framed by her husband and goes to prison for arson. Now she’s out on parole with few possessions beyond her clothes and is a long way from the comforts she once took for granted.

From her bedsit in a northern seaside boarding house, Frankie tries to build a new and simpler life, filled with genuine friendships. However, her new-found tranquillity is disrupted when anonymous messages start arriving urging her to ‘keep quiet’…

Unsure of how to handle these emerging threats, Frankie enlists the help of her new friend and fellow Sea View resident, Dot, who’s not the batty older lady she enjoys pretending to be. As a tangled web of lies and deceit begins to unravel, Frankie’s sheltered worldview is painfully exposed. She embarks on a journey not only to fight back against her own injustice but also to strive for positive change in the lives of others.

I devoured it last night (staying up way too late to finish it). It was a great insight into what it's like for people who have a bleak outlook regardless of how that came about. But it's also fun with some great characters in there and a heartwarming tale to boot.
What a fab book, I loved the writing style and really empathised with the characters.

I had a lovely time reading this over the holidays with mulled wine and mince pies to accompany it, and really enjoyed it. It was paced really well and kept me turning the page. I hope there will be a sequel in the works, Frankie and Dot are such a great pairing and I could see them as a TV duo teaming up to tackle challenges and solve mysteries brought to them by visitors to the support service who wouldn't otherwise be able to get help. I definitely want to know more about Dot's backstory and see more of Frankie's growth. Straddling her very different past and present lives and the conflicts that arise are perfect TV material too! We're living in tough times and it's so important to shine a light on those very real hardships.

“Witty and wicked”
Frankie is devastated to be convicted for something she didn't do. After prison she can't return to the London cosmopolitan life she used to have, and ends up in a bedsit in a northern seaside town. There, with the help of Auntie Dot, she rediscovers the value of true friendship and begins to build on some shaky foundations. But the past keeps coming back to haunt her and Dot (who is not all she seems) has got her back when things get dicey. A rattling good read and some awesome characters. Recommended.

I wasn’t sure about Frankie when I first started reading this, but I grew to love her more with each chapter. Dot is a delight, and this quirky pair make a great team.
I love the twists and turns in the plot, and it really becomes a page turner, in fact, I neglected Christmas dinner to finish it!
What’s next?

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I loved the characters and became so invested in them that I found myself wanting more. What happens to them? An excellent storyline and very well written. One of the best books I have read in a long time. I loved it. Can’t wait for her next book.

A fab story about beginning again when the rug is pulled from under you. I loved the beginning when Frankie rebels against her politician husband. I was concerned that it might drag when she was in prison, but it really didn’t, the story moves at pace throughout. Frankie’s character develops beautifully as she learns new things and faces challenges, especially not having the money she had been used to. Jules Cooper.

One way and another, life chucks a lot of brown stuff at Frankie. But she doesn’t wallow in it. Instead she shows us how easy it is to brighten up our daily lives with a simple charity shop purchase or a plate of yummy comfort food. And coffee – lots of it. She is fiercely faithful to her new friend Dot and the unusual mix of people who help her rebuild her life after prison. A lovely read.

I've been always interested in discovering new authors and reading their debut novels for as long as I can remember. There's a freshness to the whole experience and some extraordinary gems to discover. Along with a certain dare I say smugness that you discovered it before loads of other people!

Rosie Radcliffe's book “Frankie & Dot” is one of these wonderful special gems. I've just finished it and I was totally charmed by the story, which was full of interesting, unexpected twists and turns with some laugh out loud times! Along with urging the main character Frankie to just cop on now, please! She was ably supported by Dot though, whose character developed teasingly along the way into something quite gorgeous altogether. Everyone one of us needs and often has a Dot in our lives at some point. But rarely this gorgeous or this funny too. So if you want a special read I can't recommend this book enough. *****
