Andy has been an active member of the film, TV, theatre and education community for almost 40 years. He started his career as a utility stuntman, making 73 appearances in front of the camera, growing his craft as a fight choreographer and sword master. Later developing a love for behind the camera, he has written and directed across genres, and now is an executive producer for audio dramas.
Since 1987, Andy has been a fencing and stage combat instructor, teaching students from all walks of life, whether in schools or his own fencing club. He directed what are thought to be the largest swordplay events at the Globe Theatre and Warwick Castle and is the only UK sword master whose team has won the Gold Medal at the International World Artistic Fencing Championships.
Andy’s contribution to the industry has been recognised by his membership of many professional bodies. He became a voting member of BAFTA in 2002 and has served on several committees within the industry, including the Writers’ Guild, Directors’ Guild and the British Academy of Fencing.
Publishing his memoir, Take One, Action!, in 2021, Andy is now diving into the author space, releasing his first novel this year. He hopes that his love for film, fencing and the arts continues to inspire the next generation of aspiring fencers, actors, performers, and writers.
