Zoltan Vincze

Zoltan Vincze is an ex-police officer and spent six years in the Australian Army reserves as a driver specialist. As a writer, his creative energy stems from his love of film; years of VHS tapes and sitting in front of a makeshift screen at the local pool in rural Queensland. He holds a Bachelor of Exercise Science, a Certificate in Theology and a Masters in Screen Communications. He is of Hungarian descent and lives with his wife and two young boys on the Gold Coast, where he teaches physical education, and film and television. When not teaching, Zoltan loves watching movies, weight training, playing with his boys, tinkering with cars, and appreciating the world’s best whiskey. His first novel, Seven Days in April, was published in 2021.

Zoltan says: “For me, writing is like putting words to every frame of a movie. It’s always very visual. For Hurt Runs Within, much of it was about expressing the motion and emotion of running. And running fast. I wanted an almost-superhero type story that was grounded in reality, where the action was realistic and original.”

Afghanistan, 2012. Mackay Connolly has been medically discharged from the British army following an IED explosion killing three members of his team. He barely survives. To keep Mackay alive, a cutting-edge synthetic bone structure called Phragazom is implanted.

Back in the UK, PTSD engulfs him, leading to a deep depression. However, a budding friendship with Renee Cross, a wheelchair-bound military boxing instructor with her own traumatic past brings a glimmer of hope.

When tragedy strikes again and Mackay’s brother and most of his family are killed at an Australian winery, he is driven to uncover the truth and find his surviving nephew. Together, Mackay and Renee embark on a quest, travelling from one corner of the world to the other to bring those responsible to justice. Mackay, however, has no idea how powerful his synthetic upgrade really is…
