Full synopsis

Charlie Mellon is a self-made man who doesn’t always have the plans the right way up. What he does have is a heart of gold, a wife he loves, and one thousand left-foot Adidas trainers.

However, "life has flicked a small stone of causation sliding down the hill of fate" for Charlie, and very soon, his house—and even his wife—could be swept away.

To prevent this, all he needs to do is find 1,000 right-foot Adidas trainers, be in two places at once, and dodge the murderous intent of a builder who completely misunderstands Charlie’s complicated relationship with the man’s wife.

That can’t be too difficult, can it?

The Three Wives of Charlie Mellon is the story of one man’s determined—and sometimes hilarious—attempt to keep his life from falling apart.

Here's what readers have to say about this book....

Shelley Stiff

This was a light-hearted, if chaotic, story that follows the (mis)adventures of the titular character.. Charlie finds himself in a series of complicated and hilarious situations. The entire plot revolves around Charlie trying on the left foot of a pair of Adidas running shoes, figuring out his relationships and a builder who has murderous tendencies. I was engaged the entire book and loved Charlie and his quirkiness. The different plot twists were a bonus. What I enjoyed the most about this story was the author’s ability to mix humour with emotion. One minute I was laughing out loud at Charlie and his antics and the next I was generally touched and sympathised with his struggles. The side characters added depth to the story and every single one of them contributed to the chaos. This book was the perfect read for me cause I needed a good laugh. I love quirky characters and found this such an entertaining escape. The style of the writing was engaging, and the pacing kept me turning pages, anxious to see what Charlie would get up to next. I recommend this book wholeheartedly because it was humorous with a touch of mayhem. It’s a satisfying and enjoyable read.

"The Three Wives of Charlie Mullen" by Ian Strager is a delightful and humorous read. The protagonist's knack for getting into absurd situations is matched only by his quick wit and clever observations. The book's lighthearted tone and comedic charm make it an engaging and entertaining page-turner. A talented narrator would bring the characters to life perfectly in an audiobook version. Overall, it's a recommended read for anyone looking for a good laugh. Thank you to NetGalley and Book Guild Publishing for the opportunity to read and review this book.

Charlie Mellon’s misadventures are heartwarmingly amusing and some of his expressions and puns are laugh-out-loud funny. He has a big heart, Charlie, and is a free spirit in a world that doesn’t always play ball or is not often on his side, it seems. The plot is fast paced and Charlie is busy spinning several plates at once, plates that keep on being stopped by other people who are not necessarily well-intentioned towards poor Charlie. Aw… He’s surrounded by an eclectic ensemble of characters that interact with Charlie with good comic effect. It was very entertaining and I enjoyed learning that wu-wei is sometimes the way! 😄

oh this book had me giggling and feeling better in increasing amounts all the way through. the character and story is full of so much messy chaos. but somehow in all the best ways. should i be laughing or finding it so fun to watch a man laugh descend into possible turmoil? yes yes i should because read on and you will do the same. if i didnt laugh for him id cry. so i laughed. i cant really describe the plot of this book without giving the bits away that would be obvious in a review form. and i want you all to meet them when you do...fresh and new and smiling like me. just go in the adventure Ian takes you on. you will not regret it for a second. Charlie is adorable in all right and wrong ways.
