Full synopsis

Life is about choices. For 18-year-old Emma King, she faces a choice which will determine the path her life will follow; does she study at university, or does she join the British Army? Emma chooses to do both.

Emma King goes to university and meets Jon Clemens. A young carefree half-French student, their connection develops into deep passionate love as they travel the world together, make a home and start their family. Then an unexpected heartbreak shatters Emma’s life and forces it to alter course into the path of troubled US soldier Rick Tavern.

Emma King joins the Army and meets Rick Tavern. A young ambitious US Army soldier who passionately captures Emma’s heart during a military tour. After many years of separation they reunite in the USA, finally beginning their lives together. But their time is cut horribly short by an awful tragedy, diverting Emma’s path towards emotionally damaged divorcee Jon Clemens.

Life is shaped by those we share the journey with. Emma shares hers with Jon and Rick; One woman, two men, two very different lives.

Here's what readers have to say about this book....

Robin Gemmell

A real page turner. Reading 'My Two Lives' didn't take long; the novel is fast-paced and full of adventure. At the outset, the narrative and theme of the story is intriguing. Unlike any other novel I've read, I was curious as to how the different narrative would develop and ultimately end. I certainly wasn't disappointment, I'm usually a slow reader but the closer I got to the end, the quicker I read. What impresses me most about this novel is how apparent the author's own experiences have contributed to the content. The book visits specific locations throughout the world, and uses these as a backdrop to develop characterisation. The author is also not shy to delve into difficult topics such as mental health; It's apparent they have researched their topic well. Another positive takeaway from reading this book was the humour found in the dialogue between characters. The characters are rich and their personalities are distinct and life-like. The author also employs terms not necessarily found in your average novel; the term 'Bed hair' is something that I can certainly relate to and I found myself laughing throughout the novel. 'My Two Lives' is a book i'd certainly recommend. Its humour, expansive geography and clever narrative add up to an engrossing novel that I thoroughly enjoyed reading.
