I have been writing since moving to rural Dumfriesshire with my wife, Bernadette, in 1987. My passion for English literature, particularly that of the 18th & 19th centuries, is reflected in much of my work. I have also written two books about the Home Guard, a civilian army set up at the beginning of the Second World War, in response to the threat a German invasion of Britain. The second of these contains many personal accounts, voices from a generation now almost entirely lost. Additionally, I have written about the social history of Dumfries and Galloway. An assortment of domestic pets have, each in their own special way, hindered my writing progress over the years. Beyond writing, I enjoy reading, theatre, films, hill-walking and the odd pint.
