Lyn Asquith always dreamed of being an author. Now a retired Human Resources officer, she is fulfilling that wish.
Born in Hertfordshire, she spent her childhood holidays in Essex—the nostalgic settings for her debut novel—and still visits often.
Now living in Luton, Bedfordshire, with her husband and son, Lyn fills her free time with singing, travelling, card making, gardening, and learning Spanish.
Writing fiction has given Lyn the chance to let her imagination, where anything is possible, run free. “To become truly immersed in a book - the characters, storylines, and drama - is a wonderful experience, transporting you from your own world into another.”
Lyn’s love of reading came at an early age when her mum used to read to her at night, filling her head with different characters, locations, and many exciting adventures. At secondary school, Lyn's English teacher Mr Jervis encouraged her passion for writing.
She also loves singing, having been in a band when younger, and still belts out rock or pop tunes, though now only at home.
Lyn was born in Welwyn Garden City and grew up in Hatfield, Hertfordshire. She worked in various Human Resources roles and, in her early thirties, attended the University of Bedfordshire to study for her formal HR qualifications.
Her childhood holidays were usually spent in Jaywick and Clacton, Essex – the location she was so keen to use in her first novel ‘Time To Fly’ – and she still visits the area several times a year.
Although this novel is Lyn’s first official venture into writing, she has a number of others in progress, as well as creating a collection of short stories.
“With my renewed passion for writing, I am excited at the prospect of sharing with readers that wonderful immersive feeling when picking up a book. The satisfaction of seeing my book in print and being able to say 'That’s my book' will be amazing and I can’t wait to see it on the shelves of my local bookstore, with others to follow.
“I have another two novels in progress. In addition, having been heavily influenced by Roald Dahl and Jeffrey Archer and their short stories, with all their twists and turns, in my 30’s I started to write some in the same vein, mainly for my own amusement. These stories, like a fine wine, ‘needed to mature’ so I only returned to them a couple of years ago. It was a joy to revisit these and very exciting to see my ‘babies’ growing and developing again!”
Lyn discovered Book Guild and its partnership publishing programme through another of its authors Mike Leaver, and his agent/publicist Ian Spindley, both of North Wales, while on a holiday there.
