I have had a strong interest in history since childhood, and in particular Roman Britain. I became familiar with the revolt of Queen Boudica, and was inspired by this dramatic episode in British history. I wished to tell the story of the Queen of the Iceni tribe and her people who dared to rise against Rome. The druid priests who fought for a way of life, of the Romans who opposed them.

Iceni: The Year of Sacrifice is a debut novel. The first of a trilogy telling the story of the Iceni Revolt. I live in Bath in the heart of the West Country. I am working on other projects of historic fiction. I have also written for the regional newspaper. As well as my passion for writing, I pursue photography as an event and wedding photographer.

My News

The revolt of Queen Boudica and the Iceni against the might of Rome has echoed down the centuries. Nearly 2000 years ago, during the early years of Roman Britain, Boudica, a victim of Roman injustice, raised the Iceni tribe in rebellion against Rome.

During August 1984, millennia later, a mysterious link with the Iceni Revolt may have been discovered. The remains of a male peat bog body was discovered at Lindow Moss, Wilmslow, Cheshire, England. At first the body was believed to be a murder victim, yet after archaeologists and other experts were called in, the body was proven to be far older.

As old as the Iron Age in Britain, the time of the Roman Conquest.

The peat bog body became known as Lindow Man, or Pete Marsh. A dramatic theory was put forward. Lindow Man may have been a high-born sacrificial victim. a druid priest, perhaps close to Boudica herself, who was key and a witness to the Iceni Revolt.

I have attempted to tell the story of this druid priest. Of Boudica herself, the Iceni Revolt, and the sacrifice at what would one day become Lindow Moss. Although we only have archaeology, Roman historical narrative, and a tantalising peat bog body to go on, this is what might have happened all those centuries ago.
