Author
I'm a musician, writer, podcaster and gardener, and I live with my wife Yangmi in rural Ireland. Before this current existance, I have been a Radio DJ and podcast producer in southern India, an assistant professor of English Literature at a couple of universities in South Korea, and a student at both Durham University (2004-8) and, what was, Lampeter, University of Wales (2000-2003). I hold a BA, MA and Phd all in English LIterature.
As an academic, under the name of Dr Matthew Brinton Tildesley, I have published several articles, book chapters and a book, pretty much all focussed on Victorian Decadence and Modernism. In recent years I have focussed more on my creative writing, and, under the pen name Tylda Matthews, will be publishing my first novel, The Circle's End, with The Book Guild later in 2026. More novels will follow.

A few months ago, we moved from Auroville, Tamil Nadu, India to rural Ireland. The house that Yangmi and I bought is and old Irish cottage, once thatched and twice extended to its current 3 bed and 3 shed existance. The only heating is from an old solid fuel cooking range in the kitchen and a newly installed wood burning stove in the lounge, so a good part of my mornings is always taken up chopping wood in the old cow byre. After a very long haul, we got the greenhouse finished about 3 weeks ago, and it's already packed with tomatoes, herbs and seedling veggies. We have 5 raised beds (and 5 more to come) filled with salads, cabbages and such, 2 one-ton builders bags filled with latent spuds, but the long-running battles with the local slug population have been legendary. There's more to be told there, and it seems, this is the place to tell it. You'll be hearing from me again soon.
Love and Light, Tylda!
