Ian Siragher

A boomer who never understood the rules.

I grew up in Cambridge when the Cam was full of fish and the summers were full of sun. Leaving school with o'levels I found myself working for Lloyds Bank. Over the next  25 years  I married, fathered 2 children, lived in 6 houses in 4 cities and a town and became a senior manager.

Not wishing to die having only ever worked for one employer - I left and joined a start-up customer. After 5 years they were shut down by their new US owners. I bought up the equipment and set up my own business, providing analytical services.

Eventually, I sold that company, having also part-owned a recruitment company and a business running tours to Bhutan.

After one last tragic hurrah trying to work for someone else - I retired. There I set up another business, based around ceramics. Now I experiment with the use of 3D printing and laser engravers combined with slip-casting ceramics.

In my spare time, I like to run, take holidays, and write. Charlie is my seventh novel, the second one published. The other published story is "The Boy Behind the Glass Screen" A very different novel.

My profile has pictures of some of my ceramic work, and the cover of my first novel.

The Three Wives of Charlie Mellon

28 Apr 2025

Charlie Mellon is a self-made man who doesn’t always have the plans the right way up. What he does have is a heart of gold, a wife he loves, and one thousand left-foot Adidas trainers.

However, "life has flicked a small stone of causation sliding down the hill of fate" for Charlie, and very soon, his house—and even his wife—could be swept away.

To prevent this, all he needs to do is find 1,000 right-foot Adidas trainers, be in two places at once, and dodge the murderous intent of a builder who completely misunderstands Charlie’s complicated relationship with the man’s wife.

That can’t be too difficult, can it?

The Three Wives of Charlie Mellon is the story of one man’s determined—and sometimes hilarious—attempt to keep his life from falling apart.
