In the seaside village of Carribay, Northern Ireland, determined to succeed against all the odds, five women’s lives intertwine across generations.
1940s. Orphan, Norah Kielty, grows up on a remote farm with little to call her own but a fierce ambition to become a hairdresser. Against the odds, she secures an apprenticeship at the village salon, later marrying and raising a daughter, Bernie, as the shadow of the Troubles darkens their world.
Decades on, Bernie builds a glittering career in Manchester, far from Carribay’s shores, while Claire Moloney, exiled across the Irish Sea, endures heartbreak in Dublin before fighting her way back from loss and addiction to forge a new future.
When Bernie’s daughter, Kiera, returns to Carribay after tragedy strikes, she must modernise her grandmother’s beloved salon while confronting the past. Meanwhile, producer of Carribay Radio’s breakfast show, Aisling McCarthy, is planning the wedding of the year; an event destined to stir celebration and scandal in equal measure.
As secrets unravel and generations collide, in Carribay, community endures, and even after the fiercest storms, love finds a way home.
