Cyprus, 1957.
After a scandal destroys her university career, twenty-two-year-old Tansy Ashcroft is sent to Cyprus to live with her expatriate parents. They hope the time on the island will help her forget the past and repair her reputation. Instead, Tansy finds herself drawn into a world she was never meant to see. While working at the English School of Kyrenia, she befriends her family’s maid and begins spending weekends in a mountain village far removed from the colonial society she inhabits.
Captain Miles Fortescue, a British Army officer caught in the middle of an increasingly violent insurgency, is beginning to question the role he has sworn to uphold. Falling in love with Tansy was never part of the plan.
As tensions escalate across the island, Tansy makes a reckless decision that places them both in danger. Torn between duty, loyalty and the future they long for, Tansy and Miles must decide what they are willing to sacrifice before events beyond their control tear them apart.
