Author
After a career in the NHS, Sharon is now retired and living in York. She has degrees in both Classics and Creative Writing, and is a published poet and prose writer. Although her work often explores the female experience, the main protagonist of her debut novel The Unravelling of Michael Gilchrist (Troubador, 2018) is a man in his thirties struggling to work out what he wants from life.
Sharon's poems have achieved both national and international success, her poem Ilaria Triptych being nominated for the 2022 Forward Best Single Poem Prize. She is particularly interested in poetry written in response to art, and teaches courses on this. Her first poetry collection Encounters with the Garman Ryan arose from a collaboration with Walsall New Art Gallery, and as member of art/write, she works with artists for exhibition-based performances.
A member of Bridgnorth Writers and participant in York Stanza, Sharon publishes on her web site: sharonashtonpoetry.com.
